This is not the typical chronological blog. Each blog entry is the beginning of a discussion of a problem that parents of adopted children may face. For these issues, I do not have all the answers but I do have questions. I invite you to comment on the blog under the specific topics and hopefully together we can help each other work out the problems we face. Going overboard with accumulating things.
How does a child go from being an orphan who owns almost nothing to a child who wants and expects everything? Does this eventually level off or are we on a fast track to bankruptcy?
Isabel received way too many gifts. We put a lot of them up in her closet to be distributed at a later time. Too many toys and a kid just gets bored with all of them!
This was a BIG issue when we hosted. My husband asked "Did we get the spoiled orphan" more than once. Of course it was Christmas time, and EVERYONE was in town and EVERYONE wanted to meet her and EVERYONE felt sorry for her and brought her a gift. It was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much. Christmas day was the worst day (attitude wise) of the whole 3 weeks she was here. We learned our lesson very fast.
